''About half a hundred of Portuguese workers that work in European institutions will get back to the schools where they studied, in Portugal, to speak to the students and 'explain the European Union'. The iniciative, entitled "Back to School" and that is on the context of the european elections, happens tomorrow in 50 schoold all over the country, and the organization is from the responsibility of the Portuguese representation of the European Commission in Portugal. The volunteers will debate with the students from 8 to 18 years old the themes connected to the rights and obligations of the european citizenship."

On May 13th (Wednesday), around 6.30 pm, at the Fac. of Social Sciences and Humanities (FCSH) of Univ. Nova de Lisboa (UNL), at Avenida de Berna, there will be a debate entitled "The European Parliament and Citizenship," organized by the Lisbon team of the European CaféBabel magazine.
On the countdown to the European elections of June 7th, the CaféBabel Lisbon, in partnership with NECPRI (Centre for Studies of Political Science and International Relations), seeks to clarify / reflect on the importance of it, focusing on the theme of the proximity between the Parliament and the citizens, and the perception of the influence of the European Parliament on their lives.
Thus, were invited to the debate Manuel Monteiro, Paulo Sande, André Freire and Maurits van der Hoofd, with moderation of Paulo Barcelos (FCSH), in order to provide different perspectives on this issue, ensuring a dynamic and enlightening debate.

On the next 13th of May (Wednesday), around 6.30 pm, the debate “The European Parliament and the European Citizenship” will take place, on the FCSH (Fac. Ciencias Sociais e Humanas) of the UNL (University Nova de Lisboa), at the Av. Berna in Lisbon)
This debate, organized by the Lisbon team of CafeBabel in partnership with the NECPRI (Group of Political Science and International Relations Studies), aims to refer the themes around the European Parliament – mentioning issues such as the importance of the parliament, the coming elections, and the role of the European citizen regarding this Parliament.
As speakers the group will invite some of the main national names on the European thematic. Soon we will announce details regarding confirmed speakers and the programme of the debate.
CaféBabel Lisboa wins European Prize Carlos Magno for Youth 2009 in Portugal

The project CafeBabel Lisboa won the national competition of the “European Prize Carlos Magno for Youth 2009”, of the European Parliament.
This way, the project of the Lisbon team will go through to the second phase of the competitions, now at an European scale, representing Portugal on the competition against the projects of the other Member-States.
On May 19th 2009, in Aachen, Germany, the three winners will be revealed, receiving monetary prizes and also being invited to visit the European Parliament.
This award is an initiative of the European Parliament and of the Foundation of the International Prize Carlos Magno, aiming to award projects that promote the European understanding.

Climate change was certainly an apt theme for this year's European Development Days in Lisbon, if only for the very reason that we left Brussels on a Tuesday evening of five degrees, and arrived to a balmy Lisbon where temperatures rose to their mid-twenties during consecutive days of abundant sunshine. Something is up with our weather in Europe, let alone globally. Every Portuguese person I met remarked that the weather was extraordinary for the month of November. However, whereas our seasons appear to be merging in Europe, we are not suffering from climate change to the same extent as those in Africa and on other developing continents.
